God’s awesome power & deeds
The church (me) should lift of our voice & give praise to the Name which is about every name so that others will glorify him also. The Lord not only preserves our temporal life, but maintains the spiritual life which he has given to believers. If we stay true to God any trouble in the church will end well. We should declare unto those that fear God, what he has done for our souls, & how he has heard & answered our prayers, inviting them to join us in prayer & praise; this will turn to our mutual comfort, & to the glory of God. If we have sin in our hearts there will be no love of God to share with others. And when we pray in simplicity and godly sincerity, our prayers will be answered. This will excite gratitude to Him who hath not turned away our prayer nor his mercy from us. It was not prayer that gave me the deliverance, but his mercy that sent it. That is the foundation of our hopes, the fountain of our comforts.
II Corinthians 7 pg 1291
Paul is encouraged by the Corinthians’ repentance
The promises of God are strong reasons for me to follow after holiness; I must cleanse myself from all filthiness of flesh and spirit. If I have hope in God as my Father, I must seek to be holy as he is holy, & perfect as my Father in heaven.
My holiness should be the object of my prayers. God will make the heart humble, submissive. And this repentance is connected with saving faith in Christ, & an interest in his atonement. I need to lighten the troubles of my Pastor by respect & obedience! haha
