Birth of Moses
Exodus 2: 1-10
The birth of Moses. What a story! One of the best stories in all of the Bible! Pharaoh, king of Egypt, has just said that all Hebrew baby boys are to be thrown into the Nile. Can you hear the grieving, & crying of parents as their new-born sons are discovered and torn from their clutching hands? How about the last sound of the babies? The heartache of parents when they came near the watery graveyard?
Then a mom was determined that her boy would live & hid him for 3 months in the very river that was supposed to be his grave. Again God is taking care of his own. The message here is that God sometimes works behind the scenes in the shrewd actions of mothers, in the love of sisters, and in the compassion of a tyrant’s daughter! Before the amazing miracles there is simply the faithfulness of ordinary people who live their lives under God. This is a story about the surprising and unimaginable faithfulness of God in the midst of ordinary human living. It gives hope that regardless of how bleak the present/future might be, God is able to pull a reversal and bring salvation out of despair, life out of a tomb with ordinary people.
You determined & compassionate mothers, sisters & daughters keep being that way & God will work through you. God is faithful to and through you!
Lk 21
V 1-4 The widow is an example of the poor whose detachment from material possessions and dependence on God leads to their blessedness. Her simple offering provides a striking contrast to the pride of others.
V 5-36 We need to focus attention on the importance of the day-to-day following of Jesus. Then when hard times come we can handle them. Many will come saying they are God & we need to know the real God so we will know the difference.
